The West Railway is a partly double-track rail link between Helsinki and Turku, which is currently in the planning stage. The connection will significantly reduce the travel time between the cities and provide new opportunities for mobility, growth and development.
The new rail link consists of four parts: the Espoo regional railway line, the new direct Espoo–Salo railway line via Lohja, the Salo–Turku double-track railway line, and development of the Turku railway yard area from the Kupittaa station to the Turku Central Station.
The direct railway line between Espoo and Salo and the double-track line between Salo and Turku will significantly shorten the rail journey between Helsinki and Turku and the double track will help traffic run more smoothly. The rail connection will also make local traffic possible in entirely new municipalities.
The task of West Railway Ltd is to produce railway plans and funding for the Espoo–Salo direct railway line and the Salo–Turku double-track railway line and to construct the new rail connection. The project company is not responsible for the Espoo regional railway line nor the Turku railway yard area.

Railway projects are extensive, and the planning proceeds in stages. West Railway Ltd is in charge of the railway plans for the project and, after they are completed, construction of the rail link can begin.
